Auralia and Musition.

These are awesome programs and I do not want to even imagine what it would have been like to code them. We were joined by Peter Lee, the creator of Auralia and Musition, to give us some insights into the programs.

Auralia is a ear training program and Musition is a musicianship training program. They both cater for the entire range of musical abilities from year 7 to university. They are also in many different languages so can be used all over the world which is fun.

There are many benefits to implementing these programs as part of your teaching. Their main purpose is to provide students access to practice their aural and theory skills anytime, anywhere (it can be used on any device). There are multiple ways to answer a question (e.g. via a keyboard or notation) and provide instant feedback. The teacher can also see every student's progress and provides automatic grading. The content is customisable for each class and it is also very easy to create quizzes. In the quizzes you can choose questions and levels and change mark weightings. The set out is clear and mostly intuitive.

I definitely want to use this program when I begin teaching. My ear training was not developed well at school because we only occasionally did examples in class and I didn't know how to practice at home. I was also fairly behind some of my classmates which meant the questions were too easy for them and too hard for me. This would have been a great resource and great homework for me to do at school. I also love that it gives instant feedback which I think is so important when doing aural exercises. Not to mention it means way less marking and effort fo the teacher! I have struggled with the lab portion of AP3 a bit this semester, and during the holidays I think I would really like to use this program to get ready for AP4. (the only thing now is having the discipline to do it)

After this we heard everyone's lift pitches. I am so excited to see everyone's projects, they all sound awesome. Projects range from picture books, to remixing and film scoring and I think it's going to be pretty fun.
